Activities

Our holiday season runs from March to November, each Thursday to Tuesday. The activities take into consideration the children’s ages, time of year – and of course the weather. A typical break could run as follows:

Thursday - Arrive at the CHICKS centre; be introduced to the staff, volunteers and other children. This is followed by a short safety talk and explanation on how the camp will run. Everyone sits down for an evening meal at around 6 o’clock followed by free time in the games-barn, on the trampolines, or running around the sports field.

Friday - Breakfast followed by horse riding at a local stable followed by swimming at an indoor, heated fun pool. A 3-course dinner at around 6 o’clock is followed by a visit to the local beach, free playtime or planned team games and challenges.

Saturday – After breakfast, a day at an adventure park full of drop slides, water rides, log flumes and undercover activities! Picnic lunch and then back to the fun! Dinner at CHICKS is followed by more team building games.

Sunday – Circus skills, street dancing or face painting – depending on time of year. Body boarding or bowling, zoo visit and swimming. The evening meal is either a BBQ at CHICKS or a meal out at a local restaurant. More games in the evening.

Monday – After breakfast, there is climbing and abseiling or canoeing at a local adventure centre. After lunch, a beach visit or challenges at our CHICKS centre. Evening meal followed by a crazy disco and karaoke night.

Tuesday – After breakfast there is usually some more time for free playtime before the end of camp presentations and goodbyes. The CHICKS buses usually leave the retreat at about 11 o’clock for transport to the collecting points.

Children Horseriding

Depending on the time of year, other activities might include coasteering, assault courses, gorge scrambling, archery, sailing, cycling, Moorland walking, high ropes courses, bowling, quasar, cinema or other seasonal visits (e.g. circus).

Throughout all our breaks the emphasis is on a fun and friendly atmosphere. Games, activities and challenges are by choice, no child is ever forced to take part although they will be encouraged and supported.

The staff at CHICKS are well trained, experienced, and full of enthusiasm. Our volunteers are carefully selected, very supportive and enable us to achieve our desired 2:1 child to adult ratio.
