Rob Nunn Running Virgin London Marathon 2011

CHICKS Supporter Running London Marathon 2011

Rob Nunn from Hornchurch has signed up to run on behalf off children’s charity CHICKS in this year’s Virgin London Marathon. Rob said, “I’m very privileged to be chosen by CHICKS to run on their behalf at this year’s marathon.  Despite knowing that it will probably be the hardest thing I have done in my life to date, the motivation to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause makes it easier to don those trainers and get the miles in before the big day in April.  The work they do is vital in providing support and relief to children in situations that many of us couldn’t possibly imagine.  I’ll be dedicating my race to them and the volunteers at CHICKS.”

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) provides free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from across the UK; they receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, trusts and companies. Various running events provide vital funding and will help CHICKS who aim to provide 1,200 disadvantaged children with a respite break in 2011. The children CHICKS help come from a variety of different backgrounds, some are in care or suffering poverty, others are child carers, and in some cases victims of abuse, be it sexual, physical or emotional.

Notes to Editor:

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) is a registered charity. CHICKS camps run from March to December and in October 2010 CHICKS celebrated taking their 8000th child on camp since they began in 1992 - a landmark the charity are very proud of!

In 2011 CHICKS aim to help 1,200 children with a free respite break, spending six days at one of their retreats in Devon or Cornwall. CHICKS need support to achieve this goal.

The children CHICKS care for come from a variety of backgrounds. Many have been abused, live in poverty, or have been neglected. Others live in care or are themselves young carers, often bearing the extraordinary responsibility of caring for disabled or terminally ill relatives. What they have in common is the desperate need to create some positive childhood memories, to be listened to, and to have the kind of fun that all children deserve.

At CHICKS children can run free and be completely safe. Every child gets the total attention of their fully trained supervisors, and are made to feel cared for and valued.
