This is a new section so feel free to be the first to set up a group in your area. We really need your support.

Our Glasgow group create fabulous events

Volunteer groups are crucial to CHICKS. Without the help of kind hearted individuals we could not provide so many children with life changing respite breaks. Asides from volunteering on camp we have lots of other ways in which you can support us.

Our Regional Manager in Glasgow, Amanda Hillhouse, has a team of enthusiastic volunteers who are creating events and awareness throughout Scotland. We thought you might like to know a little more about how they are helping us and why...

Melody

Q, How did you hear about CHICKS?
A, Through a friend. I then went on the website and immediately thought that I wanted to be involved.

Q, What made you join the volunteer group?
A, Making a difference to the children's lives. I'm really interested in events management so being on the events committee is giving me great experience. I'm coming up with fundraising ideas and I haven't been involved with fundraising before so every time I attend meetings I am learning.

Q, What kind of activities have you organised for the charity?
A, We have organised a Zumbathon and a Ladies Night in the run up to Christmas and have previously organised a dog show.

Q, What would you say to anyone considering joining a volunteer group?
A, Don't be shy and come along to a meeting. The people involved are fantastic and you will gain a lot out of the charity – it works both ways.

Fred

Q, What is your experience of volunteering with CHICKS?
A, Very positive and motivational. Amanda is excited about all the ideas, it's amazing. It is almost infectious and makes you happy and more willing to contribute.

Elisha

Q, Tell me about volunteering with CHICKS
A, It's a brilliant cause, the people are so passionate and it is so worthwhile. I heard about CHICKS through do-it.org.uk. I have a new fundraising idea for CHICKS called 'Chuck it in a bucket'. This works through schools and will hopefully raise some money for CHICKS.

Q, What would you say to other people considering supporting CHICKS?
A, It's an amazing cause, the people who run CHICKS are so passionate and all of the funds raised go to an amazing charity.

Louise

Q, Why did you choose to raise funds for CHICKS?
A, It is really important that every child has a break and experiences something different. It is great to think that my fundraising efforts will make a difference!

Q, What will motivate you to continue supporting the charity?
A, The great bunch of people!! You can have a laugh and raise money for a great cause.

Jackie

Q, How did you hear about CHICKS?
A, Via my daughter who was looking to volunteer within Glasgow. I was so taken in by the enthusiasm of Amanda and the value of the charity work that I volunteered myself!! I want to do as much as I can to raise money.

Amanda Hillhouse

I am so thrilled with the group, every other week we all meet up and have great fun coming up with ideas and planning fundraising events. I would love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved. However much time you can offer, it all makes a difference.

The Glasgow Group are planning a Ceilidh Night , a Murder Mystery Evening, bag packing in local supermarkets, street collections and much more... keep checking for an event near you.

Thumbs up to our Glasgow Volunteers
