Relay for CHICKS - Birmingham Team

BarCorpDay5a
Day 5
of the Barclays Corporate - Relay for CHICKS

All assembled at 9am sharp in Wolverhampton, ready to face the 14 miles ahead of us.

Pete and Mark dressed head to toe in Lycra, Julian sporting a rather impressive, Batman-esq utility belt, laden with water and hydration gels and Matt in his jeans. You could tell who the professionals were!

John called a quick team photo with Mr CHICKS, and we were off.

Unfortunately, Mr O'Connor was deemed unfit to walk having contracted Portuguese man-flu on holiday; let's hope he hasn't infected us all. He did thankfully adopt the role of team rescue driver, to be at our beckon call should we need him.

Cyclists and runners started first, with us walkers following slowly behind.

The weather was certainly on our side and the first 5 or so miles were quiet pleasant, with the thought of a quick pint in the Barge and Barrel smoothing our aching feet. Pity it was closed. Although we were thankful for a quick pit stop and photo opportunity.

Canal-side signs counted down the miles and before we knew it, we'd reached the half-way point, 7 miles.

A quick sweetie break courtesy of Helen and we were back in our stride and after a solid hour, we were greeted by a marker –"Birmingham, 8 miles". Hold on; Had we been going backwards?

I'm sure those speedy runners and cyclists had been moving them!

Navigating Cosley Tunnel was tricky - Mark wasn't joking when he said we'd need a torch; but it certainly wasn't going to get in our or Mr CHICK's way.

We kept a steady pace for the next few hours, then suddenly, the Birmingham sky line appeared in the distance, almost there, time to dig deep!

The last mile and half seemed to last forever, but after Mr Budenberg promised us all, including Mr CHICKS a glass of something cold in Brindley Place, our legs suddenly felt lighter. Fully refreshed, we set off for a final stroll across town to hand Mr CHICKS over to One Snowhill, and have a thoroughly well-deserved rest!

A great day, thank you to all those that took part, and a special mention to Alex and baby Sam.
