Our first ever Christmas camps

This year we are delighted to tell you about our first ever Christmas camps at both of our retreats from 22nd - 27th December. With festive activities, scrummy food and plenty of fun planned, 32 children will have a fantastic Christmas they'll never forget!
When they wake up on Christmas day they will find a Christmas tree adorned with decorations and presents nestled underneath for every child. After presents, they can look forward to a day full of games, a Christmas nativity production and of course, a delicious home-cooked Christmas dinner with all the trimmings! Christmas doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks to all of the supervisors and volunteers who are giving up their time, completely free of charge to make this special occasion possible and to the supporters who have provided gifts and funds for these very festive camps.

Every child deserves a Christmas...

Andy, aged 12, belongs to a family with many problems: his mother is deaf and his father is an amputee. Added to this, there is a history of emotional and physical abuse and Andy has, in the past, been subject to a Child Protection Order. Andy suffers from ADHD and ASD.  His school is concerned about his welfare as he is a boy who responds to being given time, attention and positive experiences which he appears not to get at home. The experiences he does have are very negative and punitive.   He is desperate to be away from the family environment and recently his school arranged for him to attend a centre providing daily activities for a week in the summer holidays. This proved to be tremendously enjoyable and of great benefit to him; so much so that he wept on the final day and has asked to attend again. His appreciation and thanks were heart-warming.
Andy loves the idea of a Christmas camp and would undoubtedly have a wonderful time away from the unhappy circumstances of his home.

Thanks to CHICKS, Andy and 31 other children will be given the magical Christmas they deserve!

CHICKS Champion

We're immensely proud of our fantastic supporters! Right across the country, they have been raising money in fun, challenging and innovative ways. This month we want to thank our CHICKS champion, Jeremy Buckman!
As a bicycle enthusiast, Jeremy managed to combine his hobby and passion with a unique way of fundraising. Jeremy works hard collecting disrepaired and unwanted bikes which he refurbishes and sells on, giving the money made to CHICKS.
What a brilliant idea!

Jeremy says: Ann (my wife) and I have supported CHICKS for a long time and think it's so fulfilling to be part of giving kids a break and to help introduce them to a world of sea and sunshine and love and fellowship, so different to the environment in which they've grown up.
The money that people give me for refurbishing bikes or servicing their bikes, goes to help CHICKS to open up kids horizons and, I hope, give them a better future.

Music and mayhem at the Winter Ball       The CHICKS Winter Ball was a runaway success. Nearly 300 guests dressed in their finest were treated to some great food and drink, some stunning auction prizes and one of the best live bands around.
Joey the Lips were so good that the dance floor wasn’t big enough! We are so grateful to all of our supporters, many of whom donated prizes or bought prizes on the night – or even bought prizes and immediately donated them again!

Calling all fitness fanatics...
Many thanks to over 100 supporters who entered more than two dozen running, walking and cycling events throughout UK in 2011 to raise money for CHICKS.  We now have charity places available for various running events such as the 2012 Great South, Great North, Great Birmingham, British London 10k and Plymouth Half Marathon.  We have also bought places for the Great SWIMS in Strathclyde Country Park and Windermere.

A year to be proud of...

78 camps

507 volunteers

1200 presents wrapped

and countless childhood memories made.

Good work everyone!
