Become a CHICKS Ambassador

Join our great team

Can you help to spread the word?

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to become Ambassadors for CHICKS in their local community. To provide our service to more children and gain more support we need to make more people aware of the work we do.

Some of our volunteers want more than a casual commitment to the charity and work really hard to promote our cause in their local area. They take the time to build a strong knowledge of CHICKS (with our support) and then take that knowledge out into their community in order to gain support from individuals, community groups, schools and businesses.

This might seem like a big commitment, but the level of activity is always up to you. All we ask is that with our support each ambassador holds at least one fundraising event to spread the word of CHICKS. This could be a pub quiz, summer garden party or even a Christmas carol and mince pie evening – you have the freedom to decide what event you will hold and we can offer you support as required.

Raising our profile in your local community is the best thing you can do and we truly appreciate all support.

The Role of an Ambassador

The role is vital to the promotion of CHICKS and can be flexible to suit you. Whether you have volunteered on camp, referred a child or helped out at an event in the past, your experiences will help us spread the word and raise awareness of CHICKS across the UK.

You may be asked to

Attend a cheque presentation on behalf of CHICKS to represent the charity.
Spread the word about the charity to your local community.
Work alongside the CHICKS fundraising office to raise the profile of the charity across the country. Maybe setting up your own local fundraising group.
Give presentations or talks to local groups who are thinking of fundraising for CHICKS.
Go along to CHICKS events in your area to support fundraisers; acting as a local point of contact for people wishing to find out more about the charity.
Speak with your friends, family and colleagues to promote CHICKS.
Research 'Charity of the Year' opportunities in your local area. Most businesses, schools, churches and community groups adopt a Charity of the Year.

Support we will offer you

We want to support you as much as we can. As each ambassador role will be unique to the individual the support we can offer will vary. Please see the list below for an idea of the support will give.

A named member of staff for you to liaise with over the phone
Provision of materials and charity information for presentation, talks etc
Provision of our PowerPoint presentation and CHICKS DVD if required

Other support can be offered and we would advise that you discuss this with your nominated member of staff once your area of promotion has been established

Stories from Others

We are delighted to have a number of fantastic Ambassadors on board who continue to promote and support the work we do as a charity.

Milan has been involved with CHICKS for over nine years as a camp volunteer and has made a huge impact on all the camps he has attended. Click here to find out more about Milan's story.

Keith has been involved with CHICKS for over two years. He has provided fantastic support at our local events and volunteered on camp several camps. Click here to read Keith's story.

Milan's continued support does not end with volunteering on camps. He has also completed an abseil and the London Marathon all in support of CHICKS.

Milan Quotes:

'Through volunteering with CHICKS, I have realised the importance of the work the charity does. I am extremely passionate about the work and am privileged and proud to be associated with CHICKS. I am keen to give my time and skills to promote and develop the charity through fundraising, sponsorships as well as recruiting referral agents and volunteers'.

Milan has also volunteered on one of our first ever Christmas camps, on which supervisors commented on how Milan always had a smile on his face. He was on hand during all activities and free play sessions and the children loved his 'fun loving' nature.

We look forward to working with Milan on promoting the charity in London and seeing him back on camp very soon.

Keith Fordham [aka 'Mr Keith'] CHICKS Ambassador – My Story

They were all getting onto the minibuses – smiles, laughter and, yes, a few tears too – the end of another successful and memorable camp. Emotions were running high as the departure became a reality but, equally, there was the joy and satisfaction at having seen some lovely positive transitions with the children, and the huge privilege of helping to improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. It didn't stop there for me, I just kept thinking what a great idea CHICKS is and how well executed, I need to do more to help ensure its continuation.

So, how could I help?

I started by helping-out at a variety of fundraising events in the local area and, in the process, did an 'apprenticeship' as the mascot Mas – it's amazing what new skills and experiences you pick-up from being involved with CHICKS! Becoming an Ambassador was but a short step further and began when I invited one of the Christmas camps to a Nativity Service at my local Church; I then used that event as the basis for an article in our local Parish Magazine, and followed-up with a talk to the men's club, both of which were well received. Next, I decided to use my part-time employment at City College Plymouth as an entrée to see if I could generate support from the large College community, because there has to be the potential to generate interest across the range of volunteer activities. I managed to track-down the right person to talk to at College and had a successful meeting, with a promise to put a focus on CHICKS as the start of a potentially great relationship. I wrote a short piece about CHICKS which is to be used on the student intranet and staff bulletin, and I have given a talk to a small group of staff and students who all expressed an interest in volunteering. I have been asked back to College in the new academic year to address a larger group, particularly new students and hopefully, we will get a group within the College interested in doing a fundraising event.

The more publicity we can get then the more the chance that more people will look at the range of ways they can help our great charity. I am sure many of you out there reading this could do what I am doing so why don't you give it a go – I can promise you that you will find it interesting and rewarding, and be safe in the knowledge that you will be helping to change the lives of some wonderful children.....making memories, giving hope.

'Mr Keith'
