Olympic Miles are Making more Smiles!

There's a second torch relay taking place across the country that is set to benefit hundreds of disadvantaged children. Endurancelife are calling for runners to take up the baton as the Real Relay reaches Northern Ireland this Saturday, 9th June.

The Endurancelife Real Relay is an extraordinary attempt for hundreds of runners from across Great Britain to run the entire 8,000 mile route of the Olympic Torch Relay non-stop.

Each runner will take on a section of the continuous route, passing the Real Relay baton down the line. Despite starting out ten days later than the official Olympic Torch Relay, the Real Relay aims to reach London's Olympic Park ahead of it. For this to be achieved, the Real Relay must keep going for 24 hours of each day with team members running non-stop through day and night.

The Real Relay has got off to a flying start passing through South West England and Wales. Endurancelife are calling for runners to take part in this challenge as the Real Relay reaches Northern Ireland on Saturday 9th June. To be eligible, runners must be capable of maintaining a ten minute mile pace for the duration of their section and make a minimum £10 donation to the Real Relay's official charity, CHICKS.

Jo Smith Scott from CHICKS charity said "CHICKS is thrilled to be part of the Real Relay which is such an exciting and extraordinary challenge and we are very grateful to Endurancelife for supporting us. Not only is the Real Relay raising much needed funds for CHICKS but it is also spreading the word across the UK about what we do to help disadvantaged children.

"The Real Relay seems to have sparked passion and determination from the Endurancelife Facebook fans which has enabled this incredible challenge to get off the ground. It is now brilliant to see that as the word spreads more and more people want to be part of something very special, a great example of how seemingly impossible challenges can be conquered."

We are always looking for individuals to take on charity challenges in support of CHICKS and are currently seeking participants for The Great North Swim, British 10k London Run and The Great North Run. For more information about these events please visit our website www.chicks.org.uk

NOTES TO EDITORS: CHICKS

1, 2012 marks CHICKS 20th Anniversary. Our aim is to provide disadvantaged children from across the UK with a free respite break.

2, In 2012 we aim to give 1,200 disadvantaged children a much needed break.

3, We have two retreats in the South West and our breaks run from March to December.

4, The children CHICKS care for come from a variety of backgrounds. Many have been abused, live in poverty, or have been neglected. Others live in care or are themselves young carers, often bearing the extraordinary responsibility of caring for disabled or terminally ill relatives. What they have in common is the desperate need to create some positive childhood memories, to be listened to, and to have the kind of fun that all children deserve.

5, In October 2011 CHICKS celebrated taking their 9000th child on camp since they began in 1992 - a huge landmark they are very proud of and could not have reached without amazing supporters. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of individuals, organizations, community groups, trusts and foundations. Help them to reach more children every year.

6, In September 2012 we hope to take our 10,000th child on camp – this depends completely on funding.

7, At CHICKS children can run free and be completely safe. Every child gets the total attention of CHICKS' fully trained supervisors, and are made to feel cared for and valued.
