CHICKS Annual Golf Day!

gold_dayChildren's charity CHICKS held their annual golf day at Trethorne Golf Club, Launceston on Friday 22nd June. The event was sponsored by the Firewatch Group for the third year running and a total of 24 teams competed on the day. Congratulations to the winning team, Premier Carpets of Launceston with Andy Hardy, Mike Davey, Andrew Wilson and Fred Champion.Golfers enjoyed a full day of playing and hospitality at the picturesque Trethorne Golf Club.

The golf day raised over £7,000 which will go towards funding the free respite breaks CHICKS provides for disadvantaged children at their retreats in Brentor and Tywardreath. CHICKS receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to provide free respite breaks for the increasing number of disadvantaged children from across the UK, including hundreds from all areas of the South West.

The children CHICKS helps include those in care or suffering severe poverty, child carers and victims of abuse. Events like the annual golf day play a huge part in funding the work that CHICKS carries out.

CHICKS Fundraiser Mick Ryan added, “This year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and aim to provide breaks for 1,200 disadvantaged children. If we reach this goal we will have helped 10,000 children since we began in 1992. Although the respite breaks are free for the children, each child place costs on average £722. Events like our annual Golf Day help us raise the vital funds we need to provide the breaks. I would like to say a personal thank you to our many supporters who entered teams and donated such wonderful prizes, the Firewatch Group for sponsoring the event and also Vospers for sponsoring the hole in one. Special thanks to Carol Reip and all at Trethorne Golf Club for hosting such a wonderful day and we look forward to next year's event.'
