Olympic Miles are Making more Smiles!

There's a second torch relay taking place across the country that is set to benefit hundreds of disadvantaged children. Endurancelife are calling for runners to take up the baton as the Real Relay reaches Northern Ireland this Saturday, 9th June. 

The Endurancelife Real Relay is an extraordinary attempt for hundreds of runners from across Great Britain to run the entire 8,000 mile route of the Olympic Torch Relay non-stop.

Children's charity CHICKS started their 2012 season at the beginning of March – they provide free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from across the UK and welcomed the first 16 to their Retreat in Brentor when their washing machine decided enough was enough! With 16 children, three staff and eight volunteers each week at one Retreat the charity were in a spin and needed help. Thankfully local company Sparkworld, the home of domestic appliances stepped in to save the day...

CHICKS is a children's charity who provide free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over UK. CHICKS help many children from mid Devon and also have a high number of volunteers that visit from the area.

The children CHICKS care for come from a variety of backgrounds. Many live in poverty, suffer abuse, neglect, live in care or are themselves young carers, often bearing the extraordinary responsibility of caring for disabled or terminally ill relatives. There is an ever increasing demand for the service that CHICKS provide and in 2011 we helped 82 children from mid Devon alone.

2012 is a big year for children's charity CHICKS as it marks their 20th Anniversary. The charity who provide free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from across the UK, have given over 9000 children a free break in the countryside at one of their Retreats in Devon or Cornwall since they began in 1992.

Volunteer from Airdrie is a hit with CHICKS children

For the last 10 months 25 year old Chris Keenan from Airdrie has been volunteering his time with children's charity CHICKS. CHICKS provide free life enhancing respite breaks to disadvantaged children from all over the UK, including many children from Scotland. From getting involved with fundraising events - bucket collections and dog shows to helping in the office, Chris is so keen he has volunteered on camp to meet the children whom he has helped and see how he has made a difference.

A Magical Christmas Full of Memories

 

CHICKS first ever Christmas Camps were a huge success. All of the children, volunteers and our professional team had a superb time and many happy memories were made.

Christmas Camp was an idea that came up mid 2011. It was in addition to the 78 camps we had planned to help 1,200 disadvantaged children. Our dedicated professional team of supervisor made this possible by giving up their time for free. Funding is very difficult at present, as for most charities and raising money for additional camps was a risk. It was worth it as companies and individuals gave generous donations to make it happen and we are so grateful.
