Thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, 15 children were able to enjoy an extra special Christmas at our Coastal Retreat. The children travelled from all over the UK to our Cornish retreat on 23rd December and enjoyed a week of festive fun on ‘Snow Globe’ break, staying until the 27th.
To get them in the festive mood as soon as they arrived, the group had a wonderful afternoon and evening decorating the Christmas tree at the retreat and making their very own decorations and cards.
On Christmas Eve the group enjoyed a trip to the Eden Project where they got to meet Santa in his Grotto! They then spent the afternoon exploring the biomes before returning to the retreat for a festive movie night and to leave mince pies out for Santa!
On Christmas Day the children all awoke to find stockings at the ends of their beds and presents under the tree – and Santa had even left his snowy boot prints in the lounge!
The group enjoyed a delicious breakfast treat of pancakes and ice-cream before wrapping up for a walk on the beach. They then sat down for a traditional Christmas dinner, complete with all the trimmings, before finally opening all of their presents!
One girl told the Respite Break Leaders, “All I want for Christmas is a big teddy bear and a craft set”, not knowing that was exactly what was waiting for her under the tree and so was absolutely delighted when she opened her presents!
The festivities continued on Boxing Day when the young people on ‘Snow Globe’ break had a fantastic time snow-tubing. It was a first for most but they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, whizzing down the slopes as fast as they could! In the evening the group went to the theatre to watch the pantomime ‘Peter Pan’; the children loved the performance and were laughing, singing and happily shouting “He’s behind you!” along with the rest of the audience!
‘Snow Globe’ break was enjoyed by all who attended and, thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, really made the children’s Christmas magical!
This year, we’re hoping to provide even more breaks filled with fun, laughter and wonderful memories for children in need of respite. Your support really does make a huge difference – Thank you.
