CHICKS are delighted to have been chosen as National Express’s newest charity partner. As part of their package of support, National Express are donating 1,000 free return coach journeys in 2018 to be used by children accessing a CHICKS break. They are also providing a 25% discount on coach travel for all adults accompanying children to CHICKS, as well as a 25% discount for break volunteers.
By providing a free method by which children can reach CHICKS, this support from National Express will enable children to access a CHICKS break whose parents or referral agents had previously been unable to fund their travel. Often these are the children in most need of our support.
In addition, in 2018 National Express, the UK’s largest coach operator, are also funding the Memory Bags given to each child at the end of their break, complete with presents, diaries and photo compilations of their time at CHICKS. National Express will also promote CHICKS to their staff to encourage engagement in our volunteering and fundraising activities.
CHICKS is one of National Express’s two chosen charity partners, alongside The Prince’s Trust. Supporting CHICKS is one way in which National Express will fulfil its Youth Promise, a set of five commitments made to young people to enhance their opportunities of success in work, education and life.
National Express Coach Managing Director Chris Hardy said: “CHICKS provides vital help to disadvantaged children around the UK. We are glad to be able to offer assistance by providing free coach journeys so youngsters can go on much needed respite breaks. This new partnership forms part of our Youth Promise pledge which is a commitment to support young people by enhancing their opportunities of success in work, education and life.”
Mabel Duncombe, Partnerships Manager at CHICKS, said: “We are so grateful to everyone at National Express for their fantastic support. Providing an option of free transport for all children coming to CHICKS will be truly transformative, enabling us to offer places on breaks to children who otherwise would have been unable to access CHICKS. We can’t thank them enough.”
Richard Whitehouse, Head of Respite Breaks at CHICKS, added: “We want to provide the children who attend our breaks with a chance to completely leave behind any stresses, pressures or challenges they might experience in their day-to-day lives, and encourage creativity, imagination and exploration.
“We are so grateful to National Express for helping to make this possible, by providing children with the opportunity to travel to our breaks, and giving them something to remember the difference we hope to have made to their lives during their time with us.”
