Making Memories… Giving Hope

Dozens of families complete CHICKS Santa Fun Run in Callington

It was snow-joke in Callington this weekend as dozens of Santa-dressed families completed our annual Santa Fun Run.

Men, women and children from around Cornwall donned their finest Santa outfits to complete the family-friendly route which started and finished at Callington Bowling Club.

Jan Rackstraw from Gunnislake who took part in the run with her two grand-daughters said: “I thought the Santa Fun Run was lovely, it’s a really lovely event.

“Everybody is so friendly, we were all chatting as we went around. We wanted to support CHICKS because it’s a really good cause.”

We are especially grateful to Callington Rotary Club for its fantastic support organising the 2018 Santa Fun Run and Darren’s Cars for sponsoring the event.

Kayleigh Young-Valentine, CHICKS Events Fundraiser, said: “We would like to sleigh a huge thank you to all the brilliantly bright Santas who took part in our annual fun run this weekend!

“Our huge thanks also extend to Callington Rotary Club, Darren’s Cars and all the wonderful volunteers who helped out on the day.

“Together this support has generated a vital income that will enable more children to enjoy a break at CHICKS over Christmas and in the months to come.”

All the money raised will help to fund week-long respite breaks for children from across the UK year-round at our retreats in the South West and Derbyshire, including festive-themed breaks during December.

Oliver Boyce, CHICKS Respite Break Training and Support Officer who helps to co-ordinate the charity’s breaks explained: "At CHICKS we pull out all the stops to treat the children to a variety of fun and festive activities over Christmas, such as going to the pantomime and dressing the volunteers up as Christmas trees!

“A CHICKS favourite is a walk along the beach on Christmas Day before heading back for a traditional Christmas feast! Many of these children would not have had a Christmas at all at home.”

Evie who enjoyed Christmas at CHICKS so much exclaimed: "I wish I could live here!".

We are holding our next Santa Fun Run in Tavistock this coming Sunday 9 December. To sign up and help make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children across the UK this Christmas click here!

If you’re unable to attend our Santa Fun Runs you can also help to give children a Christmas to cherish this year by making a donation.
