Keep on running ... CHICKS is delighted that Sallyann Chambers from Nottingham has agreed to take up the amazing challenge of running the infamous Virgin Money London Marathon for us this April! The marathon takes place on Sunday 28th so Sallyann is in full training mode.
Sallyann explained why she's chosen to run for CHICKS: "I run as a form of respite from my own mental health issues and also a chance for ‘me time escape’ as my daughter has combined ASD and PTSD. I tend to focus on 10km distances with a few half marathons interspersed and have never run a marathon in my life! I’ve always wanted London to be my first as it’s been my dream since it first began. I used to sit in awe watching the BBC coverage all those years ago.
"My training will be a gradual build up. Up until the new year I will focus on building strength and smaller distances and then bring in the longer runs as the time gathers pace from January. Obviously I will cherry pick some races to keep me focussed and give me some indication as to how well my training is going.
"I am exceptionally proud to be running for CHICKS. The charity epitomises everything I hold dear; giving children having a hard time the opportunity and chance to be kids for a short while in a safe environment. My daughters have all been involved in challenging situations and something like this would have been a wonderful escape for them as well as a chance to gain confidence and self belief. I can’t wait to cross the finish line with the yellow vest on and know that the best marathon in the world gave me a chance to help another in such a mind blowing way.
"It’s the ‘cause’ that will get me through the dark mornings and cold nights of training during the winter months as well as those last few miles of the marathon when my body says it has had enough."
Sallyann has has set herself the target of raising £1,500 for CHICKS and has created a Virgin Money Giving page - if you're able to support Sallyann reach this target you can head to her donations page here.
