There are many ways an organisation can engage with CHICKS. All of our partners - both past and present - have supported us in diverse ways including:
- the hosting of fundraising events
- sponsoring our initiatives
- offering unique expertise through pro-bono support in areas such as IT, design or marketing.
Acronyms, a Plymouth-based IT and unified comms company, has been collaborating with us for two years, and work with us to make a significant contribution to our:
- IT systems by improving our previously poor internet connectivity and by providing advice on how to get the best out of IT provisions within the charity
- local volunteer training sessions by funding training facilities and refreshments
- family friendly events such as the Tavistock Santa Run by providing sponsorship funds and volunteers than enable us to put on such events.
- fundraising efforts by providing challenge events participants for challenges such as the Brighton Marathon.
Acronyms always has an exciting, and fast paced fundraising calendar. The team frequently take part in endurance runs which in the past have included; Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon, the Plymouth 10k, the South West Coast Path Trail Challenge and much more.
Frazer Lloyd-Davies, Marketing Manager said: “This run was extremely difficult, but great fun and all for a fantastic cause. Running for the children CHICKS support made the cliffs a little easier to scale!”
Tom Moore, Business Development Manager agreed: “This was the first trail run we’ve taken part in and certainly a formidable challenge. The sun made things hot but I’m glad we both got across the line in a respectable time and hopefully managed to raise awareness of the magnificent work CHICKS does.”
Investing in the Local Community
Acronyms works in partnership with the New Continental Hotel in Plymouth to fund rooms and refreshments for 26 CHICKS volunteer training sessions which take place on the first morning of each of the breaks in Cornwall. During 2018 more than 150 volunteers travelled from all over the country to support the children attending CHICKS South West breaks.
Richard Whitehouse, Head of Respite Breaks at CHICKS, explained: "These volunteer training sessions are a brilliant opportunity to get the whole team together and set the scene. We talk about what we expect the week to be like, what atmosphere we’ll be trying to create - depending on the dynamics of the group of children our volunteers will be working with - and how to maintain their own, and the children’s, emotional and physical safety.
“We are hugely grateful to Acronyms for supplying the space and refreshments we need to hold these vitally important sessions completely free of charge.”
Dave Smith, Managing Director at Acronyms, said: “I’m extremely proud that Acronyms can continue to support CHICKS by making training facilities available for respite break volunteers. The truth is though, very little would be possible without the help of these volunteers, so the real appreciation must go to them.”
Tavistock Santa Fun Run
As the principal sponsors Acronyms have supported the popular and well-attended Tavistock Santa Fun Run for the last two years, providing much needed funds and on-the-day support from staff who have given up their time to volunteer.
Sponsorship of this event has given Acronyms logo placement at the start and finish of the race, acknowledgment within the starting speech, corporate banner placement, sponsor profile promotion throughout CHICKS social media channels, in-shot brand placement on post-event photography and recognition throughout all pre and post-event press releases.
Kayleigh Young-Valentine, CHICKS Events Fundraiser, said: “Huge thanks to Acronyms and all the wonderful volunteers who helped out on the day. Together this support has generated a vital income that will enable more children to enjoy a break at CHICKS over Christmas and in the months to come.”
Dave Smith, Managing Director of Acronyms, said: “It’s been a pleasure supporting CHICKS with their Tavistock Santa Fun Run. The charity provides much-needed support for those that need it most all year round However, providing a Christmas to kids that may otherwise not have one is really special. Well done and thank you to all those who took part or volunteered.”
