On Sunday 14th April, Dave Smith MD of Acronyms, and his daughter Monica will be running the Brighton Marathon in aid of CHICKS with the aim of raising £2,000!
The team at Acronyms have been supporting CHICKS for a number of years and in various different ways, for which we are so grateful.
Dave explianed: "Completing a marathon has always been on my bucket list. Running is something Monica and I both enjoy doing together. We relish the challenge and use it as a form of therapy – an opportunity to escape. We last competed together in a Man vs. Coast challenge which was a little under the official marathon distance at 25 miles. This time we look forward to completing the full 26.2 miles, all whilst raising money for a very worthy cause.
"Over the years Monica and I have both taken part in a number of events which have ranged in distance. This race gives us an opportunity to finally tick off the marathon distance together. For those of you that know me, you’ll appreciate that I never back down from a challenge, so I can’t wait to tick off another running challenge alongside my daughter. I hope you’ll be there to support us!
"I was introduced to CHICKS several years ago, when I was invited to the Annual CHICKS Charity Dinner by good friend John Best. It was there that I learned of the good work that CHICKS does. Since then I’ve been to many CHICKS events, raised money for silent auctions and even did a European Car Rally which went on to raise over £3,000. In the last two years, I decided to make CHICKS the focus of fundraising at Acronyms and together as a team we’ve continued to support the charity. We sponsor events such as the annual Tavistock Santa Run and have provided regular training space for their volunteers with the help of the New Continental Hotel in Plymouth.
"Why CHICKS? The reason for this is simple. CHICKS support those that are most vulnerable within our society. Whether it be child carers or children that have suffered at the hands of abuse or neglect, CHICKS is there to provide respite holidays to those children that need it most. Critically, it is a chance for those young people to enjoy the simple pleasures of being a child, many for the first time. Whether it be a trip to the beach, a simple picnic or just the opportunity to make new friends and play in a safe environment, the holidays and support CHICKS provide touches the lives of every child that visits."
