Making Memories… Giving Hope

Oliver’s Travels - Book a Break, Give a Break campaign!

Teaming up with CHICKS in 2016, Oliver’s Travels wanted to help give children from difficult circumstances the break of a lifetime!

Oliver’s Travels fittingly host thousands of families every year in luxury villas and chateaux, and so they wanted to make it possible for those less fortunate to have an amazing holiday as well as create long-lasting childhood memories.

Back in December 2016, they launched Book a Break, Give a Break campaign. For every holiday booking made between 1st December and January 31st, 2017, they made a donation to CHICKS to cover the cost of a week’s retreat for 16 children. Their final total raised was a whopping £21,686. Oliver’s Travels went on to fund a further break, costing £15,520, in 2018 and they provided an amazing holiday as a raffle prize at the CHICKS Memory Makers’ Ball in November 2018.

Volunteering with children on break in 2017/18

Oliver’s Travels Co-Founders Oliver and Ravi, along with a few members of the Oliver's Travels team made the trip down to Exeter to visit a group of children on break.

The team were given a tour of the facilities by Jenny, the Development Manager. Ravi commented: “The grounds are brilliant; a wonderful haven for kids to escape from any stresses, to make new friends and create new memories.

"Following the tour of the site which included the play barn, an indoor sports barn and a games room our team met the children and had lunch together. The team remarked that every single child was welcoming, loving and friendly. Most of all, it was clear how much fun they were having. It was safe to say everyone (including the Oliver's Travels team!) had a blast. Jenny explained that each week is specifically tailored to fit the needs of each group; but at the core of each is adventure, creativity and relaxation. On the agenda for the afternoon was horse riding. Many of the children had not seen a horse before – which puts the good work CHICKS do into perspective.

Travelling with the children 10 minutes down the road to Dartmoor, they watched as the children mounted their ponies. Nothing could wipe away those smiling faces.

Sadly, it was time for Ravi, Oliver and the team to say goodbye. Felix, Oliver’s Travels Marketing Executive, volunteered for the remainder of the week’s break. Speaking of his time at CHICKS he said: “Through CHICKS we created memories that both volunteers and children will hold onto forever! I’ve never seen children smile so much in my life. I’m certain this experience will have a huge impact on these children’s lives.”

Partnering with CHICKS

Oliver's Travels co-founder explained: "Oliver’s Travels are incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with CHICKS. As intrepid travellers ourselves, we can’t see a more fitting charity to be working with. We never pass up the opportunity to visit the retreats, and with each visit, we are reminded about the importance of making happy memories from a young age. It's never easy to hear the difficulties these children face day-to-day, however, the work CHICKS do is life changing. I’ve never seen kids so happy and content, and I’m sure they’ll remember their stay for a lifetime.”
