Making Memories… Giving Hope

New charity shop and cafe in Exeter now open

We are delighted to announce that our second UK charity shop is now open in Exeter, complete with a café selling hot and cold drinks and refreshments.

The shop, which is located on Fore Street in Heavitree, follows the opening of our first shop on Union Street, Torquay in November 2018.

The opening is part of a national effort to diversify our income streams and provide more support for children living in desperately difficult circumstances across the UK.

Our Chief Executive Andrew Dean explained: “Every year we must raise £1.8 million to continue providing our services, and we are hugely grateful to all the amazing people who make such a huge difference to children’s lives by supporting us.

“We are excited to be opening our second charity shop as part of our ongoing commitment to generating increased income and enabling more children to benefit from a break with CHICKS.”

Our new Heavitree shop is stocked with a unique collection of pre-loved men’s, women’s and children’s fashion items, as well as books, DVDs, records, homeware and bric-a-brac.

We are also delighted to be able to offer a selection of hot and cold refreshments that can be enjoyed in the shop’s new café or taken away.

Our Director of Commerce Victoria Aspinall added: “We hope our shop and café will provide the Heavitree community with a new destination to relax with a coffee and browse a unique collection of pre-loved, affordable items.

“Every pound generated by the sale of items will make a huge difference to the lives of children living in desperately difficult circumstances across the UK.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who’ve visited the shop so far, and all those who pay us a visit in future for their hugely valued support.”

The CHICKS shop is open Mondays to Saturdays from 9am to 4.30pm, and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

CHICKS urgently requires ongoing donations of fashion, accessories, bric-a-brac, homeware, books and DVDs, and has a number of volunteering opportunities available for those interested in joining the charity’s Retail Team.

To make a donation or find out more about the volunteering opportunities available, call 01392 494433 or email heavitree@chicks.org.uk.
