A limited number of spaces are still available on the second CHICKS Cornish Coast Path Walk of the year, which is set to take place in October.
Now in its eighth year, the walk remains a staple of the local events calendar, raising around £10,000 each year for CHICKS. 2019 marks the first year in which two walks have taken place, following the continued success and popularity of recent events.
The walk is led by CHICKS Regional Fundraiser Mick Ryan, who recalled: “I started the walks because I personally wanted to cover the entire Cornwall Coastal Path. I decided it would be a good idea to do it in annual 25-mile stages and get as many supporters as possible to join in and raise money for CHICKS.
“Participants always enjoy the amazing scenery on the walk, staying the weekend at our Coastal Retreat, and raising money for our wonderful cause. Because the May walk was so popular, we decided to hold a second event this year."
The October CHICKS Cornish Coast Path Walk is a 25-mile trek from Portloe to Par, which is completed over Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October. Participants are invited to spend both Friday and Saturday nights at CHICKS’ Coastal Retreat in Tywardreath, where they will also receive an evening meal on the Saturday and breakfast on both mornings.
Entry for the walk is just £40 per person, which covers all accommodation, food and other organisational costs. Participants also receive a CHICKS T-shirt and support from backup vehicles. Once registered, participants are encouraged to raise as much money in sponsorship as possible for CHICKS.
Mick adds: “The entry fee you pay covers the cost of running the event, but it’s your fundraising that enables us to give more children and young people a CHICKS respite break. Every pound raised will help us to support children and young people living in desperately difficult circumstances across the UK.”
