On Tuesday 17 September, members of the local business community will be battling it out in the inaugural CHICKS Superstar Games, hosted in Exeter's Princesshay shopping centre to help raise awareness and funds for CHICKS.
The mock sports day will see the likes of Grow Magazine, Air Marketing, Attention Media, Burrington Estates and KTA go head-to-head, competing in a mix of classic sports day activities including the egg and spoon dash, three-legged race and sack relay, as well as battling it out in heats including an obstacle relay.
This year, CHICKS has welcomed over 400 children on respite and wellbeing breaks, many of whom will be returning to school in September inspired with newfound confidence after being given the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and be away from their challenging home lives.
With a need to raise £1.8 million to continue providing our vital breaks, increasing awareness through events such as the CHICKS Superstar Games will contribute massively to reaching this goal. CHICKS respite breaks are packed with fun activities, so we are excited to be engaging the local community with an active new fundraising event that’s all about being a big kid and embracing your inner sports day competitor.
Caroline Burkie, Director of Fundraising for CHICKS, said:
“We’re so pleased to see such an appetite for this event in the local business community, who have all been really enthusiastic about getting involved. Their participation leads straight back to helping us give vulnerable young people essential respite from their circumstances – to just be kids.
"Recently, a child from Devon was read their very first bedtime story on one of the breaks – it was a special moment. These moments are made possible by supporters like the Exeter business community getting involved and having some fun.”
There are still a few spaces left, but only if you act fast! If you think you’ve got what it takes and would like to enter a team, please contact Kayleigh by calling 01822 811125.
We would also like to give a special thanks to Exeter-based Ashley House Printing Company, who are sponsoring the CHICKS Superstar Games 2019!
Come and cheer on your fellow Exonians from 5:30pm on the day, or donate via http://everydayhero.co.uk/event/CHICKS-superstar-games. after all, who doesn’t like the idea of seeing suit-wearing office folk getting involved in a sack race?
