In the run-up to the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 13 October 2019, we are shining the spotlight on three runners completing the race for #TeamCHICKS! Our final featured runner is Matt Hollings, who works as a Contract Executive for our corporate partner Oliver's Travels.
What is your relationship with CHICKS and how did you hear about us?
Our two fantastic owners at Oliver’s Travels, Oli and Ravi, have been supporting CHICKS for over four years. Having such an intimate workspace and seeing both the owners regularly, we are all fortunate enough to know about how the great team at CHICKS are affecting the next generation.
What is it about CHICKS that made you want to fundraise for us?
The opportunity to raise funding for what is a wonderful charity.
Why did you choose the Royal Parks Half Marathon?
I originally wanted to challenge myself, as I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis about 12 months ago. When I learnt that CHICKS were offering a slot, it made immediate sense to run for a worthy cause, whilst testing my capabilities.
What are you doing to train for this challenge and how do you feel it is going?
My usual week consists of football training, matches and lunchtime gym sessions. For the last six months, I have been attending weekly yoga (rehabilitation therapy) and hydrotherapy, which are organised by the awesome charity NASS (the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society). This has given me a new lease of life and the education to help me push myself in a physical capacity.
Is there anything else you would like to add about your upcoming experience?
On Wednesday 9 October, myself and some of my colleagues attended a CHICKS respite break in Derbyshire. We loved seeing first-hand how the charity operates, and what we can do at Oliver's Travels to help more in the future.
