Our annual Santa Fun Run came to Tavistock last weekend (Sunday 1 December), raising £3,916 to enable more vulnerable children and young people from Devon and across the UK to attend a free week-long break.
First held in 2015, our annual Santa Fun Runs in Tavistock and Callington attract participants from across Devon and Cornwall.
This year’s Tavistock run, sponsored by Plymouth-based IT services provider Acronyms and supported by the Tavistock Rotary Club, saw over 250 individuals, families and dogs complete the run, which started and finished at the Meadows Bandstand.
As of publishing, the Tavistock Santa Fun Run had raised £3,916 from registration fees, sponsorship, and sales of Christmas cards and raffle tickets, with the figure expected to rise as sponsorship is paid in by participants in the coming days.
This amount will enable more vulnerable young people to attend respite breaks at CHICKS’ retreats.
CHICKS Events Fundraiser Kayleigh Young-Valentine, who coordinated the event alongside the Tavistock Rotary Club, commented: “We are blown away by the response to this year’s Santa Fun Run in Tavistock!
“Thanks so much to the more than 250 people who registered, the Tavistock Rotary Club, Acronyms, the Tavistock Tapestry Choir, and all of the volunteers who helped make it such a success.
“Your support will give the UK’s most vulnerable children the chance to spend a week at CHICKS in 2020, giving them the chance to have adventures, make new friends and find their confidence.”
Paul Blowey from Tavistock, who took part in the event, said: “We wanted to support CHICKS by doing the Santa Fun Run, because it’s a great cause. This is actually my fourth year doing it, but the first for my family.
“CHICKS is a great charity to support and it’s great to be doing a run in a Santa Suit!”
The festive fun continues next week with CHICKS' second Santa Fun Run of the season in Callington. The event starts at Callington Cricket Club at 10am on Saturday 7 December. Tickets will be available on the day and are still available at www.chicks.org.uk/santa or by calling 01822 811020.
