We are pleased to announce the appointment of seven new trustees to CHICKS' Board. The new members,…Read more
Every year, CHICKS relies on the generous services of hundreds of volunteers to deliver respite breaks to vulnerable children and young people across the UK.
However, we recognise that spending a week away from home working directly with the young people is not for everyone. Luckily, there are a multitude of ways in which you can get involved with CHICKS! Here are just seven of our favourites...
Naomi (right) volunteering on a CHICKS break in 2019
By far the most popular way to get involved with CHICKS is by volunteering on one of our respite breaks for children and young people.
We run breaks every week from the start of the season in February until the end of the season in December, so there's plenty of availability to fit in with your schedule!
Anyone over 18 years of age can volunteer on a break (although some require volunteers aged at least 25), and all training and preparation is provided ahead of your week.
As a break volunteer, you will be a positive adult role model who interacts with the children and allows them to develop and experience new challenges. You will be supported by a team of three Respite Break Leaders, who are employees of CHICKS.

There are so many fun things you can do to raise money for CHICKS. They don't have to be huge events, either; why not run a bake sale at your local school, or hold a garden party at home (you might have to wait until the summer for that!)?
Here at CHICKS, we are ready to support your fundraising efforts with everything you need to raise as much as possible, including promotional materials, branded T-shirts and collection pots, social media shoutouts, and even a gazebo for larger events.
Check out our Fundraising page for a few ideas to get your started or to request a fundraising kit. Alternatively, contact us to kick your idea into action!
A volunteer in the CHICKS shop in Exeter, Devon
Based in the South West? Want to spread the word of CHICKS in your community? Why not spend a day a week volunteering at one of our shops in Devon?
We now have three CHICKS charity shops open in the region – one in Exeter, one in Torquay and one in Newton Abbot – with more to come in the future, and we are always on the lookout for new volunteers to help in their day-to-day running.
If you're enthusiastic about helping customers, experienced with handling money, and have good communication and customer service skills, we'd love to hear from you!

If you're a keen runner or cyclist, are aiming to break a walking record, or want to do something a bit more silly and creative (do people still sit in baths of beans?), we'd love for you to gain sponsorship and raise money for CHICKS!
We also have charity places available at a number of running and cycling events throughout the year – check out our New Year's Revolution page for more details.
Take on a sponsored challenge for CHICKS and we will support you as much as possible, with social media posts about your challenge, blog and press coverage where appropriate, and a CHICKS T-shirt to wear proudly during training.
Contact us today if you have a challenge event in mind, or check out our Challenges page if you need a few ideas to get you started.
CHICKS Partnerships & Regional Manager Mabel Duncombe accepts a cheque at the East Midlands Chamber Christmas lunch
One of the quickest, easiest, and most effective ways you can help support CHICKS is by nominating us to be your company's charity partner.
Whether your company employs 1 or 1,001 people, a "Charity of the Year" partnership is a fantastic way to engage with your coworkers and raise money together.
Our corporate partners give us all kinds of support, from running company events to offering their services for our employees and volunteers, spreading the word about our fundraising campaigns, and producing content on our behalf.
And it all starts with you. Simply talk to whoever handles your company's charity work (or a HR Manager if you're not sure) and tell them about all the great work you'd like to support at CHICKS!
Volunteer in one of our offices in Devon, Cornwall or Derbyshire
If you're local to our head office, why not spend a day a week volunteering?
CHICKS operations are headed by a team in our Buckfastleigh, Devon office, where we welcome fundraising and coordination volunteers on a regular basis.
You could be writing letters, processing data, or researching new trusts and foundations. Whatever your skills, we're sure there's a perfect fit for you here at CHICKS!
Regional Fundraiser Mick Ryan and volunteer Jan at a CHICKS event
We're always coordinating and supporting events to promote CHICKS in local areas, and we'd love to see you there.
From quiz nights to sponsored walks, charity concerts to partnerships at bigger events, CHICKS is all over the map! Whether it's an event we're coordinating ourselves, or something else we're a part of, our team are always happy to see your faces.
Check out our events listings at the link below to see when we'll next be in your area. And if you want to run your own event, please get in touch and we'll give you all the support you need to make sure it's a success!
