After making the difficult decision to stop the provision of CHICKS breaks on Friday 20 March due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have been working hard on the best way to continue providing support for children and young people, at a time when they need it more than ever. Following a fortnight of planning we are pleased to today announce the launch of our new Facebook community CHICKS Happy Place, supported by motivational fitness app Magic Mountain.
The aim of CHICKS Happy Place is to bring CHICKS famous fun and games into the homes of children and young people who have attended or would have been attending a CHICKS break in 2020.
Together with CHICKS Referral Agents, we have created a packed calendar of content to run throughout the duration of CHICKS breaks being stopped, including healthy recipe ideas, indoor and outdoor activities, mindfulness tips and advice on maintaining positive mental well-being. Group members can also expect some special guest posts from the team behind motivational fitness app Magic Mountain as well as other CHICKS supporters in the weeks to come.
CHICKS Young Person’s Hub Manager, Sheryl Dago, explained: “We hope CHICKS Happy Place will capture the spirit of a CHICKS break and take it straight to the homes of those children currently unable to attend a break. We want to provide a place to have fun, reflect and hopefully make some happy memories...in a happy place!”
The group is launching today with advice for parents on managing conversations with their children about the coronavirus at home, useful contact numbers and a competition tasking families to learn a Dance the Day Away routine from CBBC star Ella Gilling.
Nic Monteforte CEO of Magic Mountain said: "Magic Mountain chose to support CHICKS out of the many wonderful charities out there because they best represented the core values that are so dear to Magic Mountains heart - positivity, kindness and support - brought to life through shared activity and experience. The benefits of exercise, movement and social connection are so important for all of us but especially for a child's development. We are so very proud to be partnering with a charity that shares our values, and is already having such an amazing impact on vulnerable children's lives. We look forward to our teams and community supporting CHICKS in every way possible over the coming years.”
