Tales from Day 3 at Daleside from Richard, Respite Break Manager:
"Wednesday has been a day full of excitement, energy and activity. I can see that all of the children and adults are feeling as wiped out as I am.
Another day of firsts! An early start with our first group trip to Buxton for our first full Daleside day out. In the morning the group splashed about in the swimming pool then had a picnic lunch in the park.
Then a big first for children, volunteers and staff - a visit toPoole's Cavern & Country Park, a cave with some spectacular rock formations. Although this is often something that people are nervous about doing, it seemed the staff were the anxious ones. The children were straight in, asking questions of our knowledgeable guide and in some cases requesting permission (not granted) to venture into parts of the cave that have never been accessed before. The group were entranced by the cave's stories and its almost alien-like environment.
With some time and energy to use before dinner the group walked through autumnal woodland to Solomon's Temple, at the top of a hill overlooking picturesque Buxton and the surrounding countryside. Although exceptionally windy we enjoyed the panoramic views of peak district.
Windswept and physically exhausted I'm not sure many of the children and volunteers managed to stay awake during the bus journey back to Daleside. However, they were greeted by a delicious roast dinner which restored some energy levels.
A relaxed evening with some lounge games set the tone for a well deserved sleep for all. My favourite child's quote of the day was "I know I said this yesterday but I really don't know how tomorrow is going to be better than today"
