Making Memories… Giving Hope

A final Daleside Update...

Share

The final update from the very first Daleside Break, written by Respite Break Manager Richard.

"This morning we were welcomed out of our beds by a pale winter sunrise lighting up a clear blue sky. Stark contrast to the heavy cloud that has been looming over us for the past few days. Even so it took the children a good hour to get up and ready for the day. As the boys waited patiently for the girls to emerge there was some good natured discussions about things that had happened earlier in the week. Before breakfast though, when all were in the lounge, one of the girls surprised us with a reading from James and the Giant Peach - with a twist. She had changed some of the words to suit our Respite Break Leaders James and Steve, who both obligingly acted out their roles, with impressive dramatic skill, in this hilarious version called "James and the Giant Steve".

The group spent the day at Conkers which is an adventure and discovery centre with obstacle courses, water play, miniature railways and much much more. Fortunately the sun was shining so the children could spend some time outdoor climbing and exploring.

They returned in high spirits for another delicious meal and then spent some time in the lounge playing games. After putting the final touches to the journals they have been writing each night they finished off their evening with a slide show of all the photos and videos that documented their week. A perfect opportunity to reflect on the fun and successes that they have had. Our last night of the first week at Daleside finished much like the start - with a party atmosphere. Although, thanks to a fun and adventure filled week, all is somewhat more subdued tonight".

The children all headed home, happy & tired on Friday morning!
