Making Memories… Giving Hope

About the Breaks

About the Breaks

If you're coming on a CHICKS break, you'll be staying at one of our three retreats: Moorland in Devon, Coastal in Cornwall or Daleside in Derbyshire.

Who will I be staying with?

On each break, there are 8 boys and 8 girls. The breaks are divided into age groups, so you'll be with people who are a similar (or the same) age as you. There will also be three break leaders, who are CHICKS staff, and up to six adult volunteers.

What will I be doing?

On the breaks, you'll have the chance to try lots of different activities, like horse riding, body boarding or rock climbing. You'll also spend lots of time enjoying the outdoors, with visits to the beach and the beautiful countryside surrounding our retreats.

Each week at CHICKS is different, depending on the group and the weather! As well as all the activities, a week's break might include a trip to an adventure park or the chance to learn new skills - for example, on a bush craft session.

Don't worry though - nobody will force you to take part in anything you don't want to! But all the staff and volunteers are there to encourage you to try something new and have fun at the same time.

"I enjoyed coming here  and making friends"

"I've never laughed so much in my life as I have this week!"
"The staff are so helpful...they're making it feel like home"

The breaks also make the most of the facilities we have at our retreats: play barns, with table tennis, pool tables and table football; sports barns with space to run around and play games; and arts & crafts barns with space to get creative.

We want you to have a brilliant time and to leave CHICKS with loads of happy memories and new friends!
