Hermes, the consumer delivery specialist, supports CHICKS as its ongoing charity partner through fundraising events, volunteering and swapping skills.
Hugo Martin, Legal Director and Chair of Hermes’ CSR Committee, said: “We’re proud to be able to support such a great cause, not only through fundraising, but also by enabling our employees to access volunteering opportunities with CHICKS.
"We have a large network that takes part in multiple local fundraising events throughout the year, and so to be able to combine this regular support from regional hubs, depots and partners with regular volunteering will hopefully make an impact to enable CHICKS to continue their valuable work with disadvantaged children across the UK.”
Andrew Dean, CHICKS Chief Executive, added: “The children that CHICKS help come from a variety of backgrounds. They might be living in poverty, be young carers, be victims of bullying or abuse, or have been bereaved. The one thing they all have in common is that they could really benefit from a week away from their circumstances.
"Like all charities, being able to sustain and grow our efforts is a huge task, and so we’re thrilled that Hermes has chosen to support us, not only by raising funds but also by being able to allow their employees to volunteer and share their skills with us. We’re very much looking forward to collaborating with the Hermes team over the coming months.”
Hermes staff have been involved in a huge range of physical fundraising efforts for CHICKS, including skydives, cycling and running challenges!
In November 2018, Hermes sponsored our annual Memory Makers’ Ball. This event was a celebration of the differences those who support CHICKS make to the lives of children across the UK through their vital fundraising efforts.
Martijn de Lange, CEO of Hermes UK, commented: “CHICKS is a great cause and we’re very proud to call them our nominated charity partner. The Memory Makers’ Ball is a celebration of all of the hard work that has gone into helping make a difference to so many children’s lives this year. As a new partner to CHICKS, we’re looking forward to the evening, as well as continuing to provide support over the years to come.”
Support at Christmas
Each year, the young people who come on a CHICKS break receive Christmas presents from us, all of which are hand delivered for free by Hermes. During Christmas 2019, Hermes delivered over 500 Christmas parcels and staff helped wrap more than 2,000 individual presents.
Gemma Smith, CHICKS Respite Break Coordinator, explained more about the logistics of sending Christmas presents to all the children who came on CHICKS breaks last year: "This year, we have sent out over 500 parcels, each containing four gifts. Volunteers from across the country have joined forces as part of the Great CHICKS Present Wrap, and together have wrapped over 2,000 gifts!
"This year’s presents were a mixture of fun presents, as well as gifts that the children may find useful in their daily lives. However, these are remaining top secret for now… we don’t want to spoil the surprise!"
Hermes is signed up to the Give as You Earn scheme. This means staff can opt to support CHICKS individually, making a regular donation directly from their pre-tax salary.
